The vocabulary, tools, and skills from the world of data and technology are increasingly becoming part of journalism. One sign of this is the aim to create data-informed newsrooms. However, there is little research that would flesh out what a data-informed newsroom is from the perspective of management. What is that being managed with the help of data and what kinds of visions about the future maintain data-informed newsrooms? In the talk, Laura Ahva will discuss this with research material from Finland. The theoretical framework of the talk combines the notion of making sense with data imaginaries.
Laura Ahva is an Associate Professor (tenure track) of Journalism Studies at the Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Sciences at Tampere University, Finland.
