Newspaper commentary columns have long since become the nation's punching bag. More and more disinhibited, indignant people write their hate speech on Facebook and even death threats on Twitter. Even if we cannot look behind every façade of the authors, we should nonetheless try to understand what constitutes this hatred. Who is to blame for this discharge of anger? The Internet?
Particularly in times of Pegida, Identitäre [right-wing ‘identity movement’], AfD and other right-wing populist movements, we would like to ask: where are the limits of freedom of expression and what do we do against this hatred on the Internet? We are looking for digital moral courage and strategies against Hate Speech: How do we organize ourselves against trolling trolls and angry enraged citizens? And who is responsible?
Katja Weber from DRadio Wissen discussed these questions with:
- Cornelius Puschmann, Networks of Outrage, project leader at the HIIG
- Sami David Rauscher, project manager, No Hate Speech Movement Deutschland
- Anja Zimmer, Director of the Medienanstalt Berlin-Brandenburg (mabb)
The introduction was given by Lydia Meyer, cultural scientiest and editor at Kooperative Berlin. Digitaler Salon – Haters gonna hate? was supported by the Medienanstalt Berlin-Brandenburg.
