Sources are the "raw material" of history (and the school-leaving examinations): photo documents, contract texts, statistics, maps as well as sound and film recordings. In this workshop of the Willy Brandt House in Lübeck
Dr. Alina Laura Tiews shows how she worked with exciting sound documents on "
Flight and Expulsion in Broadcasting after 1945".
The evaluation of the sources was guided by the following questions:
- What are timeless occurences of flight?
- Where are the similiarities of the social and political conditions? What was bound to the temporal context of the Second World War? And what role do the media play in reporting on refugees and displaced persons?
Thus, the 90-minute workshop gets an up-to-date reference to the current refugee debate. Pupils are asked to critically question current reporting with their knowledge - acquired from the source analysis - and under expert guidance: Is the situation of refugees really a new phenomenon?
The participants receive a CD with audio documents on "Flight and Expulsion in West German and East German Radio Programmes 1945-1960".
Time: 10-11:30 a.m.; Place: Seminarraum Willy-Brandt-Haus, Königstraße 21.
