About the Event
Does social media divide society? Or is social cohesion only possible through modern media communication? What responsibility do journalists bear as mediators in social conversations? And how do they strike a balance between creating a common public sphere and recognising social diversity? What role does the media play in managing crises and conflicts? And how does it succeed in communicating scientific knowledge?
Jan-Hinrik Schmidt (head of the Hamburg section of the Research Institute Social Cohesion), Korinna Hennig (journalist, NDR Info) and Bernd Ulrich (journalist, DIE ZEIT) discuss what challenges the change in the media poses for social cohesion.
The HBI is involved in five projects at the RISC section in Hamburg. More information is available
here.
The event series "Cohesion is ...?" brings together speakers from the RISC, but also from civil society, culture, media, politics, and business. After the panel discussion, anyone interested can talk directly with the researchers from the respective section. Further information on the series can be found
here.
