As part of her doctoral project
, Kira Thiel
wants to find out what stressful experiences adolescents and young adults have on the internet and how they deal with them.
She is currently looking for young people between the ages of 12 and 17
who want to take part in a survey about their online use
over the next few weeks (until the beginning of September).
The aim of the project is to better understand which situations can be stressful or burdensome for young people on the internet and what helps them in such moments.
How does the interview work?
During the interview, you will be asked a few questions about your own internet use. The interview will last about 30 minutes and will take place online (probably via Zoom). At the end, each participant will receive an online voucher of their choice!
The following things are particularly interesting:
- Which apps and online services do you use?
- In your opinion or experience, are there things on the internet that can be stressful or burdensome for young people?
- What can you do in such situations?
The participants alone decide what they want to say and what they do not want to say. The interview can also be stopped at any time without any consequences for the participants.
What happens to the data?
The interview is recorded and then transcribed. All information that could lead to conclusions about the person is made anonymous. This means that the name and all other names of persons or places are changed. Afterwards, the audio file is deleted. Thus, readers cannot find out which persons are behind the interviews. The names are also deleted from the documents at the end of the project, so that only the anonymised transcript exists.
Everything that is said during the interview is treated confidentially and anonymised later on. This means that parents will not find out which statements were made by the adolescents - even if they specifically ask about them.
