Games made @ Hamburg

Games made @ Hamburg

In the media, the computer and video game industry has experienced a boom over the past few years. However, by international standards, the German gaming industry has only a limited share of the boom. Some geographical centres in Germany are fully aware, however, of the potential of this industry. As in other media fields, a strong geographical focus of the industry on only few regions in Germany begins to emerge, with Hamburg as one of the most important locations so far.

Project Description

The subject of this study, which was conducted in 2005, was an inventory of the industry in Hamburg. This inventory showed that, in the Hanseatic City, the proximity to the advertising industry and the market for mobile games is of great importance in comparison to other locations. Around 800 to 1000 people working in firms in Hamburg deal directly or indirectly with the topic of games, ranging from software engineers to specialised journalists.
