Growing Up with Digital Media

Children grow up today in digitalised, convergent and rapidly changing media environments. Thereby, they come in contact with online media at an increasingly early age, which offer various opportunities but confronts them with new challenges at the same time. In order to develop concepts focusing on media literacy as well as regulatory frameworks concerning networks within youth media protection, it is important to look at offers and developments and use practices of adolescents.

For years, the Institute addresses questions concerning media socialisation, media education and the analysis and development of the system for the protection of minors form harmful media within of national and international research associations and projects. Linking perspectives of communication studies and media education with jurisprudential expertise proves to be particularly productive in this field, especially when it comes to provide different actors with recommendations for action based on empirical findings, and which aim at a suitable promotion of media literacy and a modern youth media protection.
