Immo Erik Hagemann, M. A.

From May 2022 to May 2023, Immo Erik Hagemann worked as researcher assistant for the research project “The Value of News: The History of the German Press Agency (dpa)“ (head: Dr. Hans-Ulrich Wagner) at The Leibniz Institute for Media Research | Hans-Bredow-Institut (HBI).

Immo Erik Hagemann studied graphic design and art direction in Hamburg from 1991 to 1995. Since then, he has been working for the entertainment business, mainly as a cover designer for audiovisual media but also in the development of brands and marketing campaigns as well as reproduction processes and prepress production. One focus of his work had been the evaluation, design and packaging of public service media content for cross media marketing and sales.

From 2011 to 2014, he studied mass communication at the University of Leicester (Great Britain) while pursuing his professional career full-time. His Master Thesis evaluates the survival of public service broadcasting in Germany with a special focus on the impetus on local identities.

Immo Erik Hagemann currently works as a freelancer under his own brand (squynt.net) and – among the above professional fields – creating art for entertainment conventions and events, as well as developing web sites on Wordpress CMS base. He held the introductory seminar “The Media System of the Federal Republic of Germany“ at the Institute for Media and Communication at the University of Hamburg from 2018 to 2021 as a visiting lecturer.

His main research interests lie in public service media and its content policies as well as the principles of public values and the thereby generated transformative processes within society; in combination with a planned doctoral dissertation that aims to investigate this further on a pan-European level.
