From 1 September 2019 to 31 August 2020, Chen Xinsheng from Fudan University (Shanghai, China) is a guest researcher at the Leibniz Institute for Media Research | Hans Bredow Institute.
Chen Xinsheng is a Ph.D. candidate from the Center of Information and Communication Studies at Fudan University. As a researcher, he has a strong interest to investigate how various types of media ‘determined our situation’ in historical China. The topic of his doctoral thesis focus on how postal system changed urban life of Chinese in early modern China (1896-1949). Besides, he also pay close attention to the development of digital media practices (like Mobike, Tik-Tok etc.) in today’s China.
His research stay is enabled by the Chinese Scholarship Committee (CSC). It is part of the research network ‘Transnational Media Histories
’ within the Trilateral Partnership MQ-FUD-HAM.
In his visiting year, Chen Xinsheng will work on his doctoral project and on German-based media theory in Chinese academic context under the guidance of his supervisor, Dr. Hans-Ulrich Wagner
