{"id":2946,"date":"2024-07-05T16:03:21","date_gmt":"2024-07-05T14:03:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newws.leibniz-hbi.de\/?post_type=hbi-employee&#038;p=2946"},"modified":"2024-07-05T16:03:21","modified_gmt":"2024-07-05T14:03:21","slug":"cornelius-puschmann","status":"publish","type":"hbi-employee","link":"https:\/\/leibniz-hbi.de\/en\/employee\/cornelius-puschmann\/","title":{"rendered":"Cornelius Puschmann"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Cornelius Puschmann is Professor at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uni-bremen.de\/en\/zemki\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/www.uni-bremen.de\/en\/zemki\/\">Centre for Media, Communication and Information Research (ZeMKI)<\/a>\u00a0at the University of Bremen with a focus on &#8220;Digital Communication&#8221; and Associate Researcher at the Leibniz Institute for Media Research \u2502 <span lang=\"de\">Hans-Bredow-Institut (HBI)<\/span>. From October 2016 to September 2019, he was a senior researcher at the institute and coordinated the postdoctoral research network\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/aps.hans-bredow-institut.de\/\" data-cke-saved-href=\"http:\/\/aps.hans-bredow-institut.de\/\">Algorithmed Public Spheres<\/a>\u00a0(APS). Until October 2016 he worked as project manager at the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hiig.de\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-cke-saved-href=\"http:\/\/www.hiig.de\/en\/\">Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society<\/a>\u00a0(HIIG) in Berlin. There, he was involved in the &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hiig.de\/en\/project\/networks-of-outrage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/www.hiig.de\/en\/project\/networks-of-outrage\/\">Networks of Outrage<\/a>&#8221; project, which the Volkswagen Foundation supported as part of the &#8220;Science and Data Journalism&#8221; program. His areas of interest include hate speech, the role of algorithms in the selection of media content, and methodological aspects of computational social science.<\/p>\n<p>Cornelius Puschmann completed his PhD at the University in D\u00fcsseldorf in 2009 with a corpus-based study on US-American corporate blogs and was subsequently a member of the junior research group &#8220;Science and Internet&#8221; (2010-2012). From 2012, he was a research assistant at the Institute for Information and Library Science (IBI) at the Humboldt University in Berlin, where he was responsible for the DFG project &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/gepris.dfg.de\/gepris\/projekt\/203337051\" data-cke-saved-href=\"http:\/\/gepris.dfg.de\/gepris\/projekt\/203337051\"><span lang=\"de\">Vernetzung, Sichtbarkeit, Information? Nutzungsmotive informeller digitaler Kommunikationsgenres unter Wissenschaftlern<\/span><\/a>\u00a0[Networking, Visibility, Information? Motives for Using Informal Digital Communication Genres among Scientists].&#8221; From January to July 2013, Cornelius Puschmann was a visiting scholar at the Oxford Internet Institute at Oxford University and, from September 2013 to August 2014, a visiting assistant professor at the Department of Media Studies at Amsterdam University. At the Zeppelin University in Friedrichshafen, he represented the Chair of Digital Communication in 2015\/2016.
