Kettemann<\/a> will introduce the topic.<\/p>\n<p>The discussion will be between:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hiig.de\/en\/jeanette-hofmann\/\">Prof. Dr. Jeanette Hofmann<\/a>, Research and Founding Director of the HIIG<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/fgz-risc.de\/das-forschungsinstitut\/personen\/details\/johannes-gemkow\">Dr. Johannes Gemkow<\/a>, Research Institute Social Cohesion (RISC), Leipzig<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Moderator: Katja Weber, radioeins\/rbb, Deutschlandfunk Nova<\/p>\n<p>The event on &#8220;<span lang=\"de\">Wie viel Internet vertr\u00e4gt unsere Demokratie?<\/span>&#8221; [How Much Internet Can Our Democracy Tolerate?] will be held in German.<\/p>\n<h2>About the Event<\/h2>\n<p>Headlines and commentaries in online media seem to prove those right who assume an increasing polarization of the public \u2013 in line with the latest election results in the US and Germany. But is \u201cthe internet\u201d really to blame? Is it \u201csocial media\u201d or \u201cdigitalization\u201d that endangers our democracy? There are no simple answers \u2013 opinion-forming processes are too complex: life in modern societies has many layers, political action has many reasons. And yet we know a lot about the impact of social media and the effects of digital discussion spaces on social discourse. There is no shortage of proposed solutions. A mix of regulation, effective implementation, as well as diversity and media education in the promotion of democratic communication channels seems promising.
