The topic of the call is &#8220;Likes, Looks &amp; Suffering: Media Beauty Ideals in the Classroom.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Other experts participating in the online event include Prof. Dr. Esther P\u00fcrgstaller, a professor of sports education focusing on primary school, and Martin Mannel, a youth scout at JUUPORT.<\/p>\n<p>Moderator: Anja Reiter, freelance journalist<\/p>\n<p>The event &#8220;Likes, Looks &amp; <span lang=\"de\">Leidensdruck \u2013 Mediale Sch\u00f6nheitsideale im Unterricht<\/span>&#8221; [Likes, Looks &amp; Suffering: Media Beauty Ideals in the Classroom] will be held in German.<\/p>\n<h2>About the Event<\/h2>\n<p>Social media has a significant impact on body image. How can children and young people learn to distinguish reality from manipulation? How can schools help? From #skinnytok to #looksmaxxing, body image and beauty ideals on social media platforms shape children&#8217;s and young people&#8217;s reality. New trends, lifestyles, beauty filters, and ideas about what a desirable body should look like are omnipresent on TikTok and other platforms.<\/p>\n<p>Influencers, in particular, can strongly influence young people&#8217;s ideas and expectations by presenting seemingly flawless images. These range from makeup tutorials to workout videos and often reinforce gender stereotypes. At the same time, the line between reality and manipulation is not always clear. If children and young people do not adapt to such trends, they risk social exclusion or cyberbullying. What harmful consequences can supposed beauty ideals have for children and young people? How can schools promote a critical approach to social media trends?
