\"CoverA new volume in the series published by the Research Institute Social Cohesion (RISC) brings together contributions on the topic of \u201cSocial Cohesion at the Local Level.\u201d Among the contributions is an article by PD Dr. Jan-Hindrik Schmidt and Hannah Immler, RISC researchers at the Hamburg section of the HBI, on “Local Media Repertoires and Cohesion-Related Attitudes.”
\nThe volume was edited by Reinhold Sackmann, Peter Dirksmeier, Jonas Rees, and Berthold Vogel and is available from Campus Verlag. For the time being, the volume is only available for purchase. It will be available as open access one year after publication.<\/p>\n

The article “Lokalbezogene Medienrepertoires und zusammenhaltsbezogene Einstellungen<\/span> [Local Media Repertoires and Cohesion-Related Attitudes]” and the book “Sozialer Zusammenhalt vor Ort<\/span>” [Social Cohesion at the Local Level] are only available in German. About the Book<\/h2>\n

Social cohesion does not exist on its own; it depends on certain mechanisms for its genesis. Based on this premise, the contributions in this volume address the question of what these mechanisms are and how they can be established. Using their representative panel study as a basis, the authors discuss how social cohesion can be established and maintained at the local level. At the same time, their analyses highlight the diversity of empirical approaches to explaining social cohesion.<\/p>\n

About the Publication Series<\/h2>\n

This series presents key ideas and research findings from the Research Institute Social Cohesion. It is intended for a broad audience, including academics, politicians, and the general public. The individual volumes answer the question of how social cohesion and its influencing factors can be defined, measured, or described empirically, and what conclusions can be drawn from this for politics and society. The volumes also address areas where the concept of cohesion and the social conditions it encompasses are open to criticism and what can be learned from historical and global comparisons. The series is edited by RISC spokespersons Nicole Deitelhoff, Olaf Groh-Samberg, and Matthias Middell.<\/p>\n
