The institute has been a member of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leibniz-gemeinschaft.de\/en\/\">Leibniz Association<\/a> since 2019.<\/p>\n<p>The Leibniz Institute for Media Research | Hans-Bredow-Institut (HBI) is an independent, non-profit research institute that conducts interdisciplinary media research, particularly in the fields of radio, television, and other electronic media. The HBI makes its research findings available to the academic community, practitioners, and the general public.<\/p>\n<h2>Bodies of the Institute<\/h2>\n<p>As a legally responsible foundation, the Institute has four bodies according to its statue: The\u00a0<strong>Curatorship<\/strong>, the\u00a0<strong>Board of Directors<\/strong>, the <strong>Institute Council<\/strong> and the<strong> Scientific Advisory Council<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"columns\">Curatorship<\/h3>\n<p class=\"columns\">The\u00a0<strong>Curatorship<\/strong>\u00a0serves as the supervisory body of the Leibniz Institute for Media Research | Hans-Bredow-Institut; its constituent meeting took place on 15 March 2019. The curatorship advises the Directorate and supervises its management as well as the preservation of the foundation&#8217;s purpose. The Executive Board consists of the Managing Director, <a href=\"https:\/\/leibniz-hbi.de\/en\/employee\/kristina-hein\/\">Dipl.-Kffr. Kristina<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/leibniz-hbi.de\/team\/kristina-hein\/\"> Hein<\/a>, the Scientific Director, <a href=\"https:\/\/leibniz-hbi.de\/en\/employee\/judith-moeller\/\">Prof. Dr. Judith M\u00f6ller<\/a>, and the Scientific Director, <a href=\"https:\/\/leibniz-hbi.de\/en\/employee\/wolfgang-schulz-2\/\">P<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/leibniz-hbi.de\/en\/employee\/wolfgang-schulz-2\/\">rof. Dr. Wolfgang Schulz<\/a> (chair). The Executive Board determines the research planning. Due to increased funding from the City of Hamburg, the staffing plan has been expanded somewhat in recent years in order to open up new fields of research.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"columns\">History<\/h2>\n<p class=\"columns\">The Hans-Bredow-Institut was founded on 30 May 1950 by the Nordwestdeutscher Rundfunk [Northwest German Broadcasting Corporation] (NWDR) and Universit\u00e4t Hamburg as a foundation under civil law with legal capacity. The Institute was named after <a href=\"https:\/\/leibniz-hbi.de\/en\/institute\/organisation-financing-and-history\/bredow-biography\/\">Hans Bredow (1879-1959)<\/a>, State Secretary and Commissioner for Broadcasting in the Ministry of Posts in the Weimar Republic, who made a name for himself in the Weimar Republic as a pioneer of the technical development of broadcasting.
