The competence area of Media History sheds light on current communicative processes with reference to the past and examines historical communicative processes in order to assess changes in media environments and their potential consequences in the long term.<\/p>\n

The competence area of media history combines diverse basic and application-oriented research that pursues two main objectives:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. On the one hand, it deals with current communicative processes that are characterized by references to history and the past in order to gain knowledge about the role of media in the memory and remembrance processes of communities and societies.<\/li>\n
  2. On the other hand, it deals with historical communicative processes in order to provide knowledge about changes in media environments and their potential consequences from a long-term perspective for the current debate.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The competence area of media history pursues both goals by focusing on transmedial and transnational interdependencies and their role in communicatively produced community processes.<\/p>\n
