The Leibniz Institute for Media Research │ Hans-Bredow-Institut (HBI) publishes regular publications and series. Most of them are freely available for download on the Internet in open access.
The highly respected journal “Medien & Kommunikationswissenschaft” (M&K) (Media & Communication Studies) has been published and edited by the Institute since 1953 and plays a special role. Since 2021, M&K has been available in open access via the Nomos-Verlag eLibrary.
Research findings are also published as monographs by various publishers. The latest publications of the individual employees can be found under their respective CVs.
The HBI adopted its basic position on Open Access in 2016 and updated it in 2023: Publications from the HBI should be freely accessible via the internet (mostly via the Social Science Open Archive Repository), unless explicit agreements with publishers and others prevent this. The Institute supports its staff in corresponding contract negotiations with publishers and third-party funders. The Institute encourages its researchers to publish their results in Open Access journals or as Open Access monographs.
