About the Presentation
Smartphones are our constant companions and thus a valuable tool for social science data collection. However, researchers are faced with the challenge of navigating the confusing landscape of available tools. In this presentation, Mareike Wieland outlines various paradigms of mobile research – from intensive longitudinal surveys to mobile tracking and sensing approaches to the integration of digital behavioral and survey data. Using case studies, she shows how tools such as the GESIS AppKit can be used to easily implement mobile research designs independently. The presentation concludes with an outlook on the potential of mobile research to link behavioral and survey data in real time.
