Science Communication Staff Member

The Leibniz Institute for Media Research | Hans-Bredow-Institut (HBI) in Hamburg is looking to fill the following position as soon as possible: Science communication staff member (m/f/d) with coordinating tasks at the “Research Institute Social Cohesion Hamburg (RISC)”

The position is fixed-term until 31 May 2029, part-time (75%), pay grade 13 TV-L, and based in Hamburg.

The internationally renowned Leibniz Institute for Media Research | Hans-Bredow-Institut (HBI) in Hamburg conducts high-level scientific research into media change and the associated structural changes in public communication. It is cross-media, interdisciplinary and independent, combining basic science and transfer research to create knowledge relevant to politics, business and civil society. The institute is characterised by a unique and fruitful combination of social science, communication studies, and legal regulatory research, as well as increased involvement of computer science.

The HBI is one of eleven institutes and universities that support the “Research Institute Social Cohesion (RISC)”. The HBI contributes several work packages that focus particularly on the importance of media for social cohesion. The advertised position is assigned to the work package responsible for coordinating and transferring all activities of the RISC section in Hamburg. Close cooperation with employees of the other work packages, as well as with the HBI’s science communication department, is required for the position.

Your Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the RISC Hamburg section in consultation with the scientific management.
  • Design, organize, and implement transfer measures for the RISC Hamburg site. Follow up on and evaluate these measures, particularly
    • Transfer-oriented workshops, conferences, and lecture series,
    • Public relations measures for RISC Hamburg via social media and newsletters (in coordination with the public relations work of the HBI and RISC as a whole)
    • Publications and presentations to present the RISC Hamburg to cooperation partners from the field
  • Represent the Hamburg section in the RISC, particularly in the “Science Communication Committee” and the steering committee of the RISC section coordinators.

Requirements

  • Completed university degree in social sciences
  • Professional experience in project and event management within science communication
  • Experience in public relations and content creation for social media
  • Structured, independent, and service-oriented approach to work
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel for work
  • Very good written and spoken German and English
  • Strong affinity for media, communication science, and HBI’s main areas of research
