How European Rules Shape Our Digital Future

Prof. Dr. Matthias Kettemann speaks at the Königstein Forum about how European regulations are shaping our digital future.

From the Announcement

The presentation illustrates how the European Union is shaping our digital present and future through a comprehensive network of regulations and directives concerning data, artificial intelligence (AI), social media, digital markets, cybersecurity, and media freedom. European digital regulation is guided by three principles: enabling innovation, keeping markets open, and ensuring fundamental rights, security, and trust. Data, platforms, AI, and cybersecurity are not regulated in isolation but rather as the interconnected infrastructure of a digital society. Europe’s approach is neither anti-technology nor deregulatory; rather, it is a model of regulated digitality characterized by responsibility, resilience, and the rule of law. This does not suit the U.S. at present; the U.S. has launched a frontal attack on Europe’s digital rules. But that is precisely why we need them.

The presentation “Wie europäische Regeln unsere digitale Zukunft gestalten” [How European Rules Shape Our Digital Future] as well as the event will be held in German.
