From European Concert to Brussels Solo?

  • Date: 12.06.25
  • Location: Hamburg
  • Time: 13:30 h

Under the title “From European Concert to Brussels Solo? What EU Media Regulation Means for the German Media System”, experts and the audience will discuss the transfer of media regulation to the European level and what this means for Europe’s diversity.

Media regulation is increasingly shifting to the European level, for example with the Digital Services Act (DSA) and the European Media Freedom Act (EMFA). However, the EU’s efforts to establish a uniform legal level come into conflict with the identities and particularities of its member states and their media systems. Diversity and public discourse emerge in their own ways, according to their own traditions and under their own political conditions.

What does this mean for us? Where is the scope for national media regulation and our understanding of freedom of expression? And what do these developments mean for German media companies? What are the options and solutions for preserving diversity?

Under the title “Vom europäischen Konzert zum Solo aus Brüssel? Was EU-Medienregulierung für das deutsche Mediensystem bedeutet” [From European Concert to Brussels Solo? What EU Media Regulation Means for the German Media System], experts and the audience will discuss the transfer of media regulation to the European level and what this means for Europe’s diversity.

Information on the program will follow soon.

The event will be held in German.
