Dr. Hans-Ulrich Wagner will participate in a panel discussion titled “Cultural Mandate and Program Development in Public Broadcasting.” The event is part of the symposium, “Cultural Education and Participation in Transition: The Cultural Sector between Local and Global Interests” at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz.

The presentation “Kulturauftrag und Programmentwicklung im öffentlich-rechtlichen Rundfunk” [Cultural Mandate and Program Development in Public Broadcasting] and the event “Kulturelle Bildung und Teilhabe im Wandel. Der Kultursektor im Spannungsfeld von Lokalität und Globalität“ [Cultural Education and Participation in Transition: The Cultural Sector between Local and Global Interests] will be held in German.

Other panelists include Anne Reidt, head of the main editorial department for culture at ZDF, and Matthias Hornschuh, a composer, publicist, and spokesperson for the Copyright Initiative.

At the symposium at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, scientific findings on cultural education and participation will be discussed in relation to practical requirements and experiences. This event is part of the current funding phase of the scientific survey project, “Kulturelle Bildung und Kulturpartizipation in Deutschland” [Cultural Education and Cultural Participation in Germany]. Since 2016, the study has been funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, and since 2025, by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth. Prof. Dr. Gunnar Otte is head of the project at the Institute of Sociology at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. The symposium is being organized in cooperation with the Institute for Cultural Participation Research (IKTf) in Berlin and the Professional Association for Cultural Management.
