About the Talk
The presentation introduces the concept of “strategic communication” as developed by the research group “Diskursmonitor”. The subject is linguistic and communicative practices as part of action plans that attempt to shape the thinking, actions and feelings of recipient groups. The presentation will focus on current practices in social media, as used not only, but particularly, by actors of the so-called new right, in order to occupy established terms.
About the Speaker
Prof. Dr. Friedemann Vogel is professor of socio- and discourse linguistics at the University of Siegen. His work focuses on the analysis of technical and everyday discourses in various domains, especially in politics, media and law. The research group and online platform of the same name “Diskursmonitor”, which he initiated, documents language usage patterns and communication strategy practices in contemporary discourses.
