The remuneration is based on the rates of Universität Hamburg and amounts to 13.98 EUR/hour for undergraduate research assistants (in the bachelor’s program) and 16.05 EUR/hour for graduate research assistants (in the master’s program) in the winter semester 2025/26. An extension for further semesters is possible and desirable upon presentation of a current certificate of enrolment.
The Leibniz Institute for Media Research │Hans-Bredow-Institut (HBI) examines media change and the related structural shifts in public communication. It combines basic research and research on knowledge transfer from cross-media, interdisciplinary and independent scholarly perspectives. Thus, the institute is a valued provider of problem-specific knowledge for politics, commerce and civil society.
The Leibniz Institute for Media Research, as one of eleven locations of the “Research Institute Social Cohesion”, focuses on the role of the media in stabilizing or endangering social cohesion. It conducts a series of research projects and communicates the results to the interested public in various formats.
Your area of responsibility
1) Focus technical support
- Support with system administration for data collection, warehousing and analysis
- Support with the development of our system administration
- Collaboration in the conception, implementation and follow-up of data collection in social media and data analysis
- Support with research administration activities
- Participation in internal meetings
2) Focus social scientific support
- Searching for literature and recording relevant studies
- Preparation of reports, presentations and publications
- Collaboration in the conception, implementation and follow-up of data collection in social media and data analysis
- Support with research administration activities
- Participation in internal meetings
What you bring with you
- Ongoing studies in communication science or another social science degree program, computer science or data science or related subjects (Bachelor’s or Master’s degree)
- Interest in questions of computational social sciences, especially computational communication science
- Initial knowledge of quantitative research methods
