A new volume in the publication series of the Research Institute Social Cohesion (RISC) presents articles on the topic of “Local Social Cohesion”.
This includes an article by Jan-Hindrik Schmidt and Hannah Immler, both researchers at the FGZ’s Hamburg site at the HBI, on “Lokalbezogene Medienrepertoires und zusammenhaltsbezogene Einstellungen” [Local Media Repertoires and Cohesion-Related Attitudes]. The volume was published by Campus Verlag and edited by Reinhold Sackmann, Peter Dirksmeier, Jonas Rees and Berthold Vogel. For the time being, the volume is only available for a fee. After one year it will be available as an open access publication.
About the Book
Social cohesion does not exist by itself, but is dependent on certain mechanisms of its genesis. Based on this, the contributions in this volume address the question of what these mechanisms actually are and how they can be generated. Based on their own representative panel study, they discuss how social cohesion can be established and maintained at a local level. At the same time, their analyses illustrate the diversity of empirical approaches to explaining social cohesion.
About the Series
The series presents central impulses and research results from the FGZ and is aimed at a broad social target group from science, politics and the interested public. The individual volumes provide answers to the question of how social cohesion and its influencing factors can be understood and empirically measured or described and what conclusions can be drawn from this for politics and society. They also discuss the points at which the concept of cohesion and the societal conditions it describes need to be criticized and what can be learned from historical and global comparisons. The series is edited by FGZ spokespersons Nicole Deitelhoff, Olaf Groh-Samberg and Matthias Middell.
