International data on children and online media is extensive, heterogeneous and partly contradictory. The CO:RE project seeks to create a comprehensive pan-European knowledge platform with the participation of international researchers and relevant interest groups, providing an overview of the research situation and enabling access to empirical data. The HBI coordinates the project.
The aim of the coordination and support project "CO:RE – Children Online: Research and Evidence" is the conception and implementation of a comprehensive and at the same time dynamic, pan-European knowledge platform on the experiences of children and young people in digital communication spaces and the effects of technological changes on children and young people.
CO:RE aims to provide well-founded and current findings on a broad range of topics related to the impact of technological transformations on children and youth, including their health, lifestyles, participation and digital citizenship, wellbeing, safety, and security as affected by ICT.
CO:RE will include comprehensive, reliable and systematic research from all EU Member States and a number of other European countries and thus respect relevant cultural, political, and media-related contexts.
CO:RE aims to contribute to contextualising empirical evidence by offering theoretical, methodological interpretations, and ethical reflections and guidelines.
CO:RE will help researchers and research organisations to identify important research gaps and to make optimal and informed use of existing research and data.
The platform will be developed in cooperation with relevant and influential stakeholders, who will bring in their specific information needs and disseminate the knowledge base. The project is funded within the framework of DT-TRANSFORMATIONS-07-2019: "The impact of technological transformations on children and youth" and has a duration of three years.
CO:RE comprises a total of eleven work packages, which are led by distinguished experts from nine European countries. The process is coordinated by the HBI. The project includes various communication, transfer-oriented and participatory measures and methods, so that researchers, interest groups as well as the interested public are involved in the development process.
