Journal Media & Communication Science

The open access journal “Medien & Kommunikationswissenschaft” (M&K) is an interdisciplinary forum for theoretical and empirical contributions from the entire field of media and communication studies.

M&K has been published and edited by the HBI since 1953. The journal offers German and English-language articles, reports, discussion papers and reviews, software reviews as well as a journal reader and an overview of dissertations in the field. It is published quarterly by Nomos-Verlag, Baden-Baden, and has been an open access journal since 2021. All issues since 2000 are freely accessible via the Nomos-Verlag eLibrary. The journal is also published four times a year in print.

M&K provides a forum for discussing media and communication-related issues and for analyzing media developments from different perspectives and disciplines and for all media. Medien & Kommunikationswissenschaft thus reflects the trends in research and public debate on the media.

M&K is aimed at academics, journalists and those interested in the media in politics, business, associations, media and educational organizations.

M&K has an annual volume of approx. 600 pages and contains articles in German and English, reviews, a journal reader, software reviews, a journal reader and an overview of dissertations written in the field.

There are no article processing or submission fees for authors who wish to publish in M&K. All submissions undergo a double-blind review process.
