Information

In celebration of its 50th anniversary, the Institute of Journalism at TU Dortmund University is hosting the DGPuK conference and highlighting the interplay between science and media-mediated communication in both journalistic and non-journalistic spheres, particularly against the backdrop of a democracy under global pressure.

Journalism and science are indispensable cornerstones of a democratic society. Through well-founded information and critical analysis, they provide and question facts, offering the basis for informed opinion formation and public discourse. However, what does it mean when the dynamics of the media world intensify, communication constellations change, and new areas of tension arise between a wide variety of communication actors? What responsibility does public-oriented communication science have in a deliberative democracy whose information and opinion-forming processes are influenced not only by digital technology, but also by AI?
