Student/Research Assistant (m/f/d) in the field of Law – Focus on Disinformation and Youth
Starting October 1, 2026 | Fixed-Term Position Through March 31, 2027 | Location: Hamburg |
monthly working hours 26 hours ≙ 5.98 weekly hours
Remuneration is based on rates set by the University of Hamburg. For student assistants in the Bachelor’s program, the rate is 15.20 EUR per hour. For Master’s program research assistants, the rate is 17.39 EUR per hour. These rates apply to the winter semester of 2026/2027.
The HBI conducts internationally recognized research on media change and the structural transformation of public communication. By combining fundamental and applied research across media, disciplines, and methods, the Institute generates evidence-based knowledge for academia, policymakers, industry, and civil society. The Institute is distinguished by its close integration of social scientific communication research, legal research on media regulation, and, increasingly, computational methods.
The Research Group
The advertised position is based in the “Growing Up in Digital Media Environments” research group within Program Area 1. This position will support the research project, “SETA: Safeguarding Epistemic Trust in Adolescents,” which examines the dynamics and protective factors of epistemic trust among adolescents aged 13 to 17. This project is part of the interdisciplinary DFG Priority Program 2573, “Rethinking Disinformation” (Re:DIS), which unites research projects addressing disinformation from philosophical, psychological, communication science, legal, computer science, and political science perspectives (https://www.philosophie.hu-berlin.de/de/forschung/re-dis).
What are your responsibilities?
- Contributing to the analytical, empirical, and evaluative phases of the SETA project and drafting legal memoranda.
- Conducting case and literature research and collecting and reviewing relevant studies and documents
- Preparing research results for scientific publications and presentations.
- Supporting drafting of project reports.
- Participating in internal disciplinary and interdisciplinary meetings.
- Supporting the SETA project team (Dr. Dreyer, Prof. Dr. Möller, and Dr. Keller).
What qualifications should you have?
- Valid enrollment in a German university in the field of law, possibly with a focus on information and communication
- Interest in issues of youth media protection law and disinformation
- Good English language skills in spoken and written form
- Commitment to working in a research-oriented team
- Great enthusiasm for interdisciplinary collaboration
- Motivation and teamwork skills are required
