Leonie Wunderlich

Junior Researcher Media Use

Leonie Wunderlich has been working as a Junior Researcher at the Leibniz Institute for Media Research | Hans-Bredow-Institut (HBI) in Research Program 1 “Transformation of Public Communication – Journalistic and Intermediary Functions in the Process of Opinion Formation” since July 2020.

Her research interest lies in the use of media and news in digital media environments. She is working on the project “Use the News – News Usage and News Literacy in the Digital Age”, which examines how people in Germany keep themselves informed and what the state of news competence is, especially among the population under the age of 30. Currently, she is investigating the role of (non-)journalistic actors in the information behavior of young people in the context of the #UseTheNews project.

Leonie Wunderlich studied media and communication science at the University of Düsseldorf and Aberystwyth University in Wales. In her master’s thesis as part of her master’s degree in “Journalism and Communication Studies” at Universität Hamburg, she looked at the phenomenon of topic fatigue and news avoidance among young adults. She worked as a student assistant in the project “Public Connection“.
