The Leibniz Institute for Media Research | Hans-Bredow-Institut (HBI) will present two papers at the 43rd Congress of the German Sociological Association (GSA). Prof. Dr. Wiebke Loosen and Michaela Pfadenhauer will speak on the topic “Social Futures of Communicative AI: Expropriative Appropriation in Journalism and Companion App Technologies” in the plenary session “The Social Futures of Artificial Intelligence.”

Antonia Eichenauer, Prof. Dr. Wiebke Loosen, and Jonah Wermter will participate in the “Science and Technology Studies” section with their presentation “Anticipatory Appropriation and the Open Question: What Is AI for Journalism? Future Expectations and Their Consequences in Science, Technology, and Society.”

The presentations “Gesellschaftliche Zukünfte kommunikativer KI: Enteignende Aneignung im Journalismus und in Companion-App-Technologien” [Social Futures of Communicative AI: Expropriative Appropriation in Journalism and Companion App Technologies] and “Antizipatorische Aneignung und die offene Frage: Was ist KI für den Journalismus? Zukunftserwartungen und ihre Folgen in Wissenschaft, Technik und Gesellschaft” [Anticipatory Appropriation and the Open Question: What Is AI for Journalism? Future Expectations and Their Consequences in Science, Technology, and Society] will be held in German.

The theme of the congress is “Futures of Society,” on which researchers will discuss current social developments and challenges from various sociological perspectives.
