Film Discussion: “The Dopamine Trap—The Neurotransmitter and Social Media”

  • Date: 02.11.26
  • Location: Halle/Saale
  • Time: 09:00 h

At the SILBERSALZ Science & Media Festival in Halle (Saale), Kira Thiel will participate in a discussion with students about the documentary focusing on what happens in our brains when we constantly reach for our smartphones.

Directed by Léo Favier, the film “Die Dopamin-Falle – Der Botenstoff und die Sozialen Medien” [The Dopamine Trap—The Neurotransmitter and Social Media] (2023) shows how social media stimulates the brain’s reward system and the mechanisms platforms use to capture their users’ attention. During the subsequent discussion, young people will talk with experts about the influence of social media on everyday life and mental health, as well as the responsibility of platform operators. The discussion will also cover data protection, media law, and the roles that regulation and media literacy can play.

The event will be held in German.
