For this Leibniz Media Lecture, we welcome Dr. Julian Müller from the University of Hamburg. In his lecture, he will explore how political representation changes when those being represented have more opportunities to present themselves. This Leibniz Media Lecture is hosted by the Hamburg Section of the Research Institute Social Cohesion (RISC).
Moderator: PD Dr. Jan-Hinrik Schmidt
The event “Neue politische Redeweisen und der Wandel politischer Repräsentation” [New Political Rhetoric and the Transformation of Political Representation] will be held in German.
About the Lecture
Democratic societies are currently facing numerous challenges. The spaces and media for political debate are changing. Established patterns of social and political identification, such as party affiliations and group memberships, have become fragile. And the idea of a rationally deliberating public seems almost outdated. This lecture will identify some of the most significant political discourses of the present day and consider how political representation is changing as those being represented increasingly have the opportunity to present themselves.
