How can media outlets maintain independence in their reporting when they are under economic pressure, competing for attention, and dealing with changing consumption habits? What are the consequences of budget cuts in newsrooms and the use of artificial intelligence in journalism? More fundamentally: What does freedom of the press mean, and what puts it under pressure?
Media law expert Dr. Tobias Mast and Svea Eckert, a Mercator Fellow at the HBI and tech journalist, will discuss these issues with Felicia Holtkamp, editor-in-chief of GENZ magazine.
Moderator: Stefan Endter, executive director of DJV Nord.
Doors open at 6:45 p.m., the event starts at 7 p.m.
“Pressefreiheit unter Druck” [Press Freedom Under Pressure] will be held in German.
The event is part of Hamburg’s Press Freedom Week, an initiative of the Körber Foundation and ZEIT STIFTUNG BUCERIUS supported by over 45 partners. For the full program, visit www.pressefreiheit.hamburg. The HBI is hosting this event in collaboration with DJV Nord and Bücherhallen Hamburg.
