The theme of this year’s Weizenbaum Conference is “Empowering People in Online Spaces: Democracy and Well-Being in Digital Societies.” Several HBI researchers will contribute to the conference. The conference will be held in English.

Dr. Stephan Dreyer will shed light on the challenges in the tension between platform regulation and children’s rights in his presentation “Protection of Minors as a Disservice: Platforms, Due Diligence, and the Privatization of Children’s Rights.”

Together with Dr. Kiran Kappeler (University of Copenhagen), Michael V. Reiss and Prof. Dr. Judith Möller will present their study “Measuring Generative AI Knowledge: A Comparative Study of Self-Assessment, Conceptual Understanding, and Factual Knowledge” on the assessment of AI competencies.
Panel 2 | Session 6: Protecting and Building Identities (3:00–4:30 p.m.)
In their contribution “Sensemaking in the Age of Algorithms: Young Users’ Information Practices and Agency Negotiation on TikTok,” Leonie Wunderlich and Dr. Sascha Hölig discuss young people’s media use in an algorithmic environment.
