12:30 p.m. Two researchers from the Hans-Bredow-Institut gave lectures at the preconference in the session "Conceptional Challenges: Transmedia and Diachronic Memory".

3 p.m. – 5 p.m. The Young Scholars Network of ECREA (YECREA) organised a series of workshops on the topic of "Methods, Writing and Activism". One of them was led by Dr. Cornelius Puschmann, whose workshop focused on "Researching Digital Media Environments".

. Journalism’s Response to the Datafication of Society" in the session "Data Journalism: Studying a Maturing Field".

2:30 p.m. – 4 p.m. Prof. Dr. Wiebke Loosen chaired the session "The Datafication of Society. How Algorithmic Data Processing is Changing the Foundations of Communication". She also gave a lecture in the session on the topic "Through the Lens of Data. How Datafication is Changing Journalism's Observation of Society."

Julius Reimer and
Prof. Dr. Wiebke Loosen talked about "Co-Creating a New Local Public Sphere: On the Potential of Action Research for Re-Vitalizing Public Communication in a City's Centre and Its Peripheries". They were joined by the co-authors Prof. Dr. Andreas Breitner from the ifib of the University of Bremen as well as Katharina Heitmann and Prof. Dr. Andreas Hepp from ZeMKI Bremen. The lecture is based on the findings of the project
"Tinder the City". The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and aims on developing an innovative news and information app for the city of Bremen.
